I am busily preparing for a trip to South Carolina, with plans to visit Beaufort and St. Helena Island to get some research done for my next book. When I took a break from laundry this morning, I found this announcement in my e-mail: Queen
Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) and
Carolee Holme Brown of St. Helena Island at the Courtney P. Siceloff
Welcome Center at Penn Center, Inc. http://www.penncenter.com The
public is cordially invited to attend Penn Center’s dedication ceremony
and reception for the Courtney P. Siceloff Welcome Center Friday,
December 12, 2014 at 5 pm. Unfortunately, our plans have us arriving in the area on Saturday, so once again, I'll miss the important celebrations at the site of Laura M. Towne's Penn School and the setting for my biographical novel, The Road to Frogmore. Still, I'm delighted to know that the new welcome center is finished, and I'll pay them a visit some time next week. In the meantime, I found the rest of the article both interesting and informative.
